Labrador Skies Package

August 11, 2021

Lovers of the night sky know that light pollution is a bane of stargazing. With no streetlights or large towns to the north, south and west and the Atlantic Ocean to the east for thousands of kilometers, there are no issues with unwanted light in Battle Harbour. Join us and astronomer Garry Dymond August 11-12 for the Perseid Meteor – one of the greatest astronomical events of the sky calendar.

Garry is the owner and operator of Fireball Planetarium and has been an amateur astronomer for over 50 years. In 1991, Garry was awarded the Service Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) for his work in bringing astronomy education to the public. Over the past 15 years, Garry has run the public shows for the Marine Institute Planetarium in St. John’s. Garry has been a member of the RASC, American Meteor Society, International Meteor Organization (IMO) and served on the Meteorite and Impact Advisory Committee of the Canadian Space Agency. There are few better to look for meteors with than Garry. If conditions are right, we might even see the Northern Lights! As with any outdoor activity, we will be keeping our fingers crossed for clear skies. Regardless of the sky cover, Battle Harbour will give you a trip to remember for the rest of your life.

After some awesome sky viewing, you can enjoy a complementary beverage in the Loft from Labrador’s only microbrewery, Iron Rock Brewing Co.

Package includes: return passenger ferry transport between Mary’s Harbour and Battle Harbour; all meals; accommodations for two nights; and two microbrews from Iron Rock Brewing Company. Packages are based on double occupancy and start at $970 + tax (that is for two people, not each!). Contact Annette at 709-921-6325 to book your package now!
